Author David Osborne on “Reinventing America’s Schools”
November 8, 2017 @ 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm
You’re invited to a reception and discussion with David Osborne as part of his nationwide tour to celebrate the release of his new book, Reinventing America’s Schools: Creating a 21st Century Education System. David is the author of several books, including the New York Times bestseller, Reinventing Government, and leads the education project at the D.C.-based Progressive Policy Institute.
A new paradigm for public education is emerging to fit the realities of the 21st century. In his book, David offers a bracing survey of the most dramatic improvements taking place in urban education today in cities as diverse as Denver, Washington D.C., and New Orleans.
These cities all have one thing in common: they embrace a public education system that relies on school autonomy, accountability, and choice.
They’ve embraced these principles in different ways—in both the charter and district sectors; through elected boards and appointed commissions; with leadership from mayors and from local coalitions. In all cases, the driving goal is the same: giving those closest to the students the freedom to design learning more relevant and responsive to student needs.
Please join Progressive Policy Institute, Education Evolving, and EdAllies for a reception with appetizers and beverages, a short presentation from David, a panel discussion with local education leaders, and a Q&A.
The local panel will include:
- Brandie Burris-Gallagher, Policy Director, EdAllies
- Rep. Roz Peterson (56B), Minnesota House of Representatives
- Julene Oxton, Innovation Coordinator, Lakeville Public Schools
- Lars Esdal, Executive Director, Education Evolving as moderator
